Typing Germany
Germany types on QWERTZ, and the differences from QWERTY are substantial enough to matter. Y and Z are swapped, which affects two genuinely common English letters; the umlauts occupy positions that QWERTY gives to punctuation; and the sharp-s sits on the number row. A German typist running an English test on a QWERTZ board is doing something meaningfully harder than the raw WPM suggests.
The Y/Z swap is the single biggest source of avoidable errors for QWERTZ typists on English tests, because both letters are common enough to appear constantly and muscle memory does not distinguish them under speed. The Alphabet drill is the direct fix — it serves every letter with equal probability, so Y and Z come up far more often than they would in normal prose.
Country is detected from your browser's timezone and language settings rather than your IP address, so it reflects how your device is configured. You can set it explicitly on your account page if it has guessed wrong.

Does QWERTZ make English typing tests harder?
Somewhat, yes. The Y and Z keys are swapped relative to QWERTY, and both letters appear regularly in English, so QWERTZ typists tend to make substitution errors that QWERTY typists never encounter. Layout is not accounted for in the rankings, so a strong score on QWERTZ represents more work than the same score on QWERTY.
How is the Germany typing leaderboard ranked?
By words per minute, highest first, across every game mode and test length. It lists every game played rather than one row per player, so a player who has recorded several fast runs appears more than once. Narrow it with the mode, length and time-range controls above the table.
How do I get on the Germany leaderboard?
Just play. Every completed run is recorded automatically and your country is detected from your browser settings. Sign in first if you want your run to carry your username rather than appearing as anonymous.
