About the Long Words leaderboard
Long Words serves words of eight letters and up, and it changes what the test is actually measuring. With fewer word boundaries per minute, transitions stop being the bottleneck and sustained in-word accuracy becomes everything — one wrong character eight letters deep can cost you the whole word.
Typists who post strong scores here usually have something specific: reliable finger transitions across the whole board, rather than fast bursts on familiar short words. It is the best diagnostic mode on the site. If your Long Words score lags well behind your Medium Words score, the gap is almost always accuracy under sustained load rather than raw speed.

Long Words leaderboard FAQs
Why is my WPM lower in Long Words?
Longer words leave less room for error and give you fewer chances to recover rhythm between words. Most typists see a drop of ten to twenty percent compared with Medium Words; a much larger gap usually points to accuracy problems on less-common letter combinations.
What does a strong Long Words score tell you?
That your accuracy holds up when you cannot rely on muscle memory for the whole word. It is the closest mode on the site to typing unfamiliar real-world text, such as technical or academic writing.
